These new, open-ended posts represent the first phase of a recruitment drive that will see up to 24 new staff join our already 135-strong team at Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ. Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ has been growing steadily over the past decade, and the new appointments will further enhance our research capabilities and performance in key strategic areas.
Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ is based in a brand-new and well equipped laboratory complex, employing a sizeable number of scientists from virtually all marine science sub-disciplines. We deliver the highly praised BSc (Hons) Marine Science to a small number of dedicated undergraduates, and host a vibrant postgraduate research school. Based in a scenic location outside Oban, on the west coast of Scotland, Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ offers ideal conditions to work and live.
The posts are made possible thanks to Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ receiving Β£5.6 million of an Β£11.4 million funding package awarded to the UHI Millennium Institute (UHI, of whom Ώ΄Ζ¬ΏρΘΛ is an Academic Partner) to boost its research portfolio in the bid to becoming the University of the Highlands and Islands in 2007. The full funding package consists of Β£5 million from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Β£3 million from the Scottish Funding Council, and Β£1.45 million from the European Regional Development Fund, as well as contributions from Lifescan Scotland Ltd, NHS Western Isles and UHI.
