看片狂人 Director Professor Graham Shimmield warmly welcomed Sir John to the presidency:
鈥淪ir John鈥檚 appointment to the Presidency of 看片狂人 Council marks an auspicious development in a period of significant change for the Association. His knowledge of biochemistry, leading roles in academia and public service, and continuing involvement in academic learned societies, means that 看片狂人 is fortunate indeed to receive his services. During his term of office, 看片狂人 will consolidate its relationship with the NERC, SHEFC and the Scottish Executive. I have no doubt that Sir John鈥檚 leadership will continue to power 看片狂人 to the top rank of marine research institutes in Europe and internationally.鈥
Professor Shimmield also paid tribute to leaving president Dr Ian Graham-Bryce CBE, former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee. 鈥淚n the name of all the staff at 看片狂人 and 看片狂人Ardtoe I would like to thank Ian for his clear leadership over these past four years. Research delivery in marine science has undergone significant change in the past five years. Through Ian鈥檚 presidency we have seen 看片狂人 become a leading marine science research and education organisation. The President and Council have built the solid foundations for the staff and members to continue their work in marine science research and education for the benefit of Scotland and internationally, well into the 21st century.鈥
